Wireless Smart Meter for Gas
As utilities deploy advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) across their distribution grids, the customer-related data can be now remotely monitored. Smart meters enable two-way communication between the meter and the central system employed by the utilities. Typically, when deploying water and gas meters the utilities face challenges to provide power to the wireless sensors, so an efficient, battery-based, low-power sensor design is required.Microsemi’s ZL70550 ultra-low-power radio transceiver is ideal for the implementation of an ultra-low-power, battery-driven water or gas sensor. The device can also operate in applications where harvested energy sources can be used together with an energy storage device. The diagram depicted here shows the implementation example of a generic wireless water and gas meter using solar energy to provide energy to an embedded rechargeable energy storage device.
