Overview

Futon dryers are used at times when it is difficult to dry a Japanese futon by hanging it outside, such as during rainy season. They are also used to keep a futon dry to prevent mites.

Functions required by a futon dryer include air quantity control (motor control), heater management, timer management, LED display control, and buzzer (melody playback) control. In addition, since a heater is being controlled, safety measures that employ a temperature sensor are also required.

Renesas offers the RL78/G1x Series microcontrollers, which are capable of achieving all of the above functions on a single chip. Renesas also offers TRIACs and photocouplers suitable for peripheral components, providing an optimal solution for a futon dryer system.
