Renesas offers solutions for safer, more fuel-efficient powertrain.
New RH850/E2x Series 28-nanometer automotive microcontrollers with on-chip flash enable high processing performance necessary for high-efficiency next-generation zero-emission green cars
As emissions and fuel economy requirements become stricter year by year, demand has grown for more precise control in powertrain systems. The trend toward industry standardization and the incorporation of cooperative control, as well as the increasingly bifurcated demands of environmental technology, on the one hand, and emerging markets, on the other, are increasing performance requirements for MCUs.
Renesas is developing various products that realize high processing performance to promptly satisfy these requirements for powertrain control systems. The newly released RH850/E2x Series on-chip flash microcontrollers use 28-nanometer (nm) process technology and incorporate up to six sets of 400 MHz CPU cores, including four sets of dual-core lockstep CPU core structures.*
The RH850/E2x Series has security functions that protect automotive control systems from illegal access, and various built-in functions that support the safety and security of vehicles such as functional safety (ISO 26262), making it easier to obtain certification. In addition, Over The Air (OTA) updating of ECU software is supported, so software can automatically update wirelessly to a safer version.
