These modules in the factory automation plant are gateway for industrial signals coming from the analog world and to be converted to digital signals. The raw information coming from the still used 4-20 mA bus, dominated by the traditional industrial sensors, like proximity, pressure or temperature needs to be converted with a robust signal conditioning circuitry and with monolithic devices like the current limited terminations (CLT family) which are able to translate the signal and have full diagnostics and also LED driving capability which is another key feature in the industrial environment. On the output side there are the intelligent power switches (IPS family) which are able to manage from 1 to 8 output per time simultaneously with current capability up to several amperes. Galvanic isolation is available in the IPS, and other features like 61V input extension for fail-safe applications, SPI bus for daisy chaining where we can enhance output capability. SPI feature is available also on the input side. All these ICs are compliant to the most common industrial standards like IEC 61131 or IEC 61000 and related chapters. These modules are then ready for EMC, ESD and surge compatibility tests.
